Does SimpliSafe Require WiFi?

Home safety is best served when your home security system is connected 24/7 to the monitoring system of a professional security service. SimpliSafe is an excellent option for your home security system or alarm system, but many users may not know whether their security system requires WiFi in order to function.

Many people are confused over how the SimpliSafe security system establishes communication with the monitoring center. In comparison to a traditional security company that communicates with the help of a landline, the SimpliSafe company uses WiFi to communicate.

Usually, a security system has a backup battery that provides it with power when the home power goes out. But what if your internet or WiFi router goes out with the power too? Will the system still stay connected with the monitoring center?

Thankfully, the SimpliSafe Security system doesn’t require WiFi to work all the time. The company designed it with a cellular module backup that helps security systems communicate directly with the monitoring center if WiFi is down. SimpliSafe also lasts up to 24 hours if the main power goes out, thanks to its large backup battery.

What Technology Does SimpliSafe Use When There is No WiFi?

SimpliSafe manufactures the base station with a cellular module and a backup battery. These systems are present to make sure that the system will work even if there is a WiFi outage. SimpliSafe will simply use your mobile internet network to communicate during an outage.

How Can I Connect My SimpliSafe to WiFi?

Use these steps to connect SimpliSafe Base Station to your WiFi network:

  • First, find the button labelled “Menu”  on the SimpliSafe keypad. You may need to enter your 4-digit code.
  • From there, select the System Setting option by pressing the right rocker.
  • You will see a WiFi icon. The system will display all the available WiFi hotspot options on the screen. You should select your WiFi hotspot to connect it with the system. You can select your WiFi network by using the right rocker.
  • You should use a secured WiFi network and enter your network password when it asks for a new connection. You can type the password using the keypad.
  • The SimpliSafe uses T9 as the input type; old cell phones also use it to type out text messages. You will need to press the specific key at certain times to get the right letters for the password.

Does SimpliSafe Work if Your Internet is Down?

SimpliSafe built their security system using a cellular module that will allow the system to communicate over the cellular network when WiFi is unavailable.

However, when the cellular network internet connection is also down, the SimpliSafe system faces a problem communicating and performing other functions.

The SimpliSafe system will be perfectly fine for areas that experience low to zero mobile connectivity outages. You can also try switching your current service provider to a service provider with fewer internet outages history in your locality. This could help you secure a backup network for your SimpliSafe system.

Does SimpliSafe Work Over WiFi or Cellular?

According to SimpliSafe, the system uses both WiFi and cellular networks. The system primarily uses your WiFi network, but it will use the cellular module to work if your WiFi connection disconnects.

You should use a protected WiFi or Cellular connection to prevent the system from risks of hacking.

So, Does SimpliSafe Require WiFi?

Internet-connected security systems are becoming increasingly common as people find them to be an excellent way to secure personal safety, property, and devices. Many smart home automation systems and security cameras work over the internet.

However, SimpliSafe can work well even without WiFi. SimpliSafe has made their security systems so that they can utilize cellular technology as a backup network to communicate when home WiFi is unavailable.

SimpliSafe also performs many of its functions without the internet, using a cellular module and battery backup. Luckily, your SimpliSafe system doesn’t need WiFi and can function in almost any circumstance.
